In the winter of 2011, Ben was awarded a scholarship to attend the Nature Photography Summit and Trade Show held in McAllen, Texas to take part in our High School Scholarship program. “I attended the NANPA High School Program in 2011 held in McAllen, Texas. When I arrived, I was greeted by friendly, professional mentors and other high school students. It was one of the most memorable times of my life. I met some great people and many are still very close friends. The mentors at the program inspired me to use different techniques and to look at something from every angle. Believe it or not, before I went into the program, I had never used a tripod before. Now, it’s an essential piece of my gear.
If you have any interest in photography, I can guarantee this program will solidify that passion. I will never forget my time in McAllen. Since the program, I have applied many of the skills I learned and have been published multiple times in various magazine and websites, something that would not have been possible without this program’s encouragement. Currently, I am attending Western Washington University and am in my second year of studying Environmental Policy. I am also taking advantage of weekends and time in-between classes during the week to explore the beautiful nature and wildlife of Washington State. As long as I can hold a camera, I will forever be a photographer.”
